WildNet Africa News Archive The Mpumalanga Parks Board (MPB) is investigating a mass poisoning attempt of white-backed vultures, allegedly for muti purposes, on a farm near Hectorspruit. Parks spokesman, Gary Sutter, said MPB conservation services personnel received a report yesterday from the foreman of Lotwigslust farm that at least 50 vultures were feeding off an impala carcass laced with insecticide. 'We think an organic-phosphate insecticide was used which killed at least five of the vultures,' Mr Sutter said. He claimed the poachers may have wanted the heads, wings and feet of the birds for muti purposes. A vet from the Kruger National Park saved two vultures suffering from fits and vomiting and sent them to a rehabilitation centre. Sapa. Courtesy of the Pretoria News. |
